This was actually a real crashing. Sonderkommando-Elbe pilot Heinrich Henkel crashed his Me-109 into a B-24 called "Sacktime". Some minutes later, the Sacktime exploaded in a forest, but the entire B-24 crew (and Henkel) survived.
