Martin Marietta X-24B

Peter M.
The X24B was designed to research a ‘lifting body’ shape. Rather than normal wings. For future space vehicles it was thought the shape could better cope with re-entry to the atmosphere. Flown 36 times from 1973 to 1975. Drop launched from a B52. It had a rocket engine in flight and would glide to land. Reaching 1.5 x the speed of sound and up to 74,000 ft. #X24B,#X_24B,#Martin_Marietta
