Jonathan Harrington House

Jonathan Harrington House

jago716
The earliest parts of the house, on Lexington Green, date back to 1690. Jonathan Harrington lived in this house at the time when he took part in the militia standoff before the British on April 19, 1775. He was mortally wounded in the outbreak of gunfire, and dragged himself to his doorstop, where he died at his wife's feet. Later, the Harrington House was the home of John Augustus (1785-1859), a Boston boot maker who would become the "Father of Probation." Today, the house stands as an historic landmark, though it remains a private homestead. #augustus #battle #green #Harrington #historic #Lexington #MA #residence
