Directoire Period Grecian Style Bed or Daybed, ca. 1795

D. Wm. Larson Interior Design
This Directoire bed or daybed was designed in the neoclassical style, interpreting Grecian themes popular at this time within the French Revolutionary Directory government just after the Terror of 1793 through 1794. Painted wood in grey and pale yellow tones with cane inserts and silk coverings. The small French Louis XVI gueridon in acajou and kingwood marquetry with marble top and brass accents. The candelabra is Swedish, in marble, blown blue glass, bronze dore, and crystal. Many thanks to Scorpio for the use of the neoclassical style rug from around the same period. By Don Larson, D. Wm.
