Attero device was a powerfull weapon created by Lantean scientist Janus. Attero device capabel of manipulating subspace frequencies that wraith usead for theire hyperspace travel efectivlly destroying any wraith ship atempting to enter hyperspace. Even if wraith to learn that they ships can not enter hyperspace , they will be left traped unabel to escape ore call backup in case of lantean atack. Attero device was builed on a planet that was later named by tau'ri. But after lanteans activated it they learn a dangerous flaw with the technology: if stargate to be activated when device is in use it will explode with a force equal to those of hundreds of nuclear bombs.After running the device for two days lanteans decided to shut it down and abandon the technology.Janus take the control device with them to atlantis and hide it in his secret lab.After lanteans had lost the war with the wraith and abandoned the galaxy a rouge group of asgard known as vanir discovered the outpost.Vanir were on a brink of the extinction so they attempted to activate the device to kill the wraith without any concern how many human lives would be lost , but failed to do so. Vanir finally menage to activate the device when they stall the control key from Atlantis expedition. But Atlantis expedition along side with travellers who's colony was lost after stargate explosion menage to track down and destroy the device.
