The C8 Carbine is a member of the C7 Family, devoloped by Diemaco (who were based in Kitchener, Ontario) alongside Colt's M16A2. In the mid-eighties, Diemaco bought a licence from Colt to develop their own rifle based on the M16, for use in the Canadian military. They came out with the C7, which is still serving now. Soon after, Diemaco was bought out by Colt, and named Colt Canada. As a subsidary of Colt, they updated the design into a Carbine form, the C8 Carbine. It has a tactical rail/carrying handle identical to those on the M16A2, a similar barrel, and a stock that is closer to the M4 Carbine. It accepts all STANAG magazines, and fires 5.56 NATO ammunition.
