****Make Sure to check out the interiors: Deck 13 Forward Lounge "The Reef" and Deck 01 Breifing Room, Located inside this model!**** Named for the massive ancient predatory shark of Earth's prehistory, Project Megalodon was undertaken following Starfleet's debrief of the USS Voyager crew in their short but violent interactions with the hostile species from extra-dimensional "fluidic space" known as Species 8472. Starfleet rapidly initiated Project Megalodon to counter this threat by constructing a starship that would be able to enter and operate in fluidic space. Advantages of a swept, non-modular design contributes not only to increased maneuverability in fluidic environments, but greatly enhances overall structural integrity, and reduces the overall surface area (SA) compared with other modular starship designs. In warp flight, the reduction in SA has led to increased efficiencies of the warp engines, enabling the projection of a smaller warp bubble, which demands less energy and reduces the gravimetric shearing effect of space-time making it less likely to be detectable by sensors. In combat and stress situations, the reduced SA contributes to a smaller shield projection, increasing efficiency of shield emitters, and allowing for contoured overlap in geometry, which increases the deflective ability of the shields to dissipate incoming energy or salvos.
