The titular setting from the 2006 movie "The Lake House" starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. This unique glass-and-steel design combines classic 'glass box' elements of 1960's modernism with Regency-era symmetry and massing. The broad overhung eaves of the flat roof and rectilinear details evoke the prairie style -- appropriate for the Chicago-area setting of the film. My personal favorite part of this design is the incorporation of a live maple tree growing through the central volume of the house all the way up to the soaring main skylight. The house was designed by British production designer Nathan Crowley, and was purpose-built for the film on a lake in the Cook County Forest Preserves outside of Chicago.
