GE Dash 9-44CW - BNSF Railway

TRG
The Dash 9-44CW, also known as the C44-9W, is a six-axle diesel electric locomotive manufactured by GE Transportation from 1989 to 1994. The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway purchased 100 of these locomotives as part of their "Super Fleet" of locomotives. They were painted in the red and silver warbonnet scheme like that of their streamliner diesels from the 1940s and 50s. When the merger with Burlington Northern into BNSF occurred, these locomotives were retained in the roster. While some were repainted into BNSF's H1 or H2 paint schemes, many retained the red and silver warbonnet scheme with the "Santa Fe" lettering replaced with "BNSF" in a similar typeface. These locomotives have been dubbed "fake bonnets" by railfans, and as these locomotives are over 30 years old, the paint on most units is well worn and faded. They can still be seen on many mainline trains on the BNSF system to this day.
