EMD* SD40-3 - CSX Transportation

TRG
The CSX SD40-3 is a rebuild of the EMD SD40-2, which was a six-axle diesel electric road switcher built by the General Motors Electro-Motive Division from 1972 until 1989. CSX inherited its SD40-2 fleet from the Chessie System and Seaboard System mergers, and later from Conrail. Starting in 2010, CSX began a Dash 3 rebuild program for SD40 and SD40-2, GP38-2 and GP40-2 locomotives have been given several modifications, the most notable being a new cab. The rebuild program ended in 2012 and limited numbers of these locomotives received upgrades. These engines in question have been nicknamed "SpongeBob" by railfans due to their square and yellow appearance.
