German long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft BV-138,Seedrache (sea dragon) nicknamed "Fliegender Holzschuh" (flying clog). This world war 2 flying boat was used for costal patrol defense and antisubmarine warfare. It earned its nickname of flying Clog, due to the shape of the hull resembling that of aClog, which is a wooden Dutch shoe. The BV-138 was equipped with 3 engines, one on the center fuselage and two on nacelles with tail booms. It was armed with front and rear mounted turrets and a top gunner could sit in a rear facing gun on the back of the center nacelle. This plane could carry depth charges, radar and sonar equipment or up to 12 passengers (not including crew) No complete surviving aircraft exist today.
