House of the Bugkalot is primarily interwoven with rattan and bamboo. This ethnolinguistic group, living in the areas of Nueva Viscaya spreading to Quirino, Aurora and other neighboring provinces, are also known as "Ilongot", roughly translated as "animists and head hunters".
Houses are built with a unique design on top representing heads of hornbill, similar to the head dress awarded to men who have successfully participated in a head hunt, an expected prerequisite before marriage.
