In 1849 Samuel Pope, a well known Gawler businessman acquired two acres of land on which the Wheatsheaf Inn was built. At this time it was very popular as a stopping off place during the Barossa Valley Gold Rush of 1868. Records of the inn are some-what scanty but several licensees kept trade here. The Hotel finally ceased trading as an inn in 1905. The site was then purchased with the derelict building along with the two acres of land in 1972. With much imagination, flair and a great deal of hard work turned it into the Wheatsheaf Inn Tea Rooms of today. #Inn #Restaurant #Stone_building
