DSRV-1 MYSTIC (Deep-Submergence Rescue Vehicle) (1970 – 2008)

DSRV-1 Mystic was one of two deep-submergence rescue vehicles developed by the U.S. Navy after the 1963 sinking of USS Thresher (SSN 593) nuclear submarine revealed the limits of the Navy’s deep-sea rescue capabilities. As part of their submarine rescue system from 1970 until 2008, the Mystic was 50 feet long, 8 feet in diameter, and weighed 37 tons, with a maximum depth of 5,000 feet and a two man crew. Designed to respond within 72 hours of a submarine accident, it could be transported to the scene by truck, aircraft, ship, or by specially configured attack submarine, working with either a "mother ship" or "mother submarine" to locate a disabled submarine and evacuate up to 24 crew at a time. Never needed for actual submarine rescues during its’ service life, the Mystic and its’ twin were replaced in 2008 by the Submarine Rescue Diving and Recompression System (SRDRS). This model represents the Mystic DSRV. Thanks to ColdCanuck60 those DSRV Mystic was the template for my model.
