USS San Francisco (C-5)

USS San Francisco (C-5)

Turd F.
This is my rendition of a ship similar to the USS San Francisco. She was a protected cruiser built by Union Iron Works in San Francisco and was comissioned by the United States Navy several times between November 15, 1890 and December 24, 1921. In 1891, the San Fran became the flagship of the South Pacific Squadron and she headed to Chile, where she landed a detachment of marines and sailors to protect the American consulate during their civil war. After the war, she steamed to Honolulu and stayed there until the next year. Seven years later, the Spanish-American came and the San Francisco took up patrol duties along Florida and Cuba. In 1908, she became refitted as a minelayer and spent the last few years of the First World War laying mines in the North Sea. After the war, she remained in reserve for over a decade, being renamed the "USS Tahoe" and later the "USS Yosemite" in 1931 inorder to lend the name to the heavy cruiser CA-38. #1890 #1891 #1892 #1908 #1917 #Chilean_Civil_War #cruiser #Hawaii #Honolulu #protected #Reserve #San_Francisco #South_Pacific_Squadron #SpanishAmerican_War #Tahoe #USS #WWI #Yosemite
