Reclining Buddha or Sleeping Buddha statue inside the Maha Vihara Mojopahit complex is the religious building. The building was founded by Lumbini Foundation aims to commemorate the glory of Hindu Buddhist has been growing and evolving in the region.
Construction of Maha Vihara Majapahit began on December 13, 1985, in the land area of 16,000 square meters in Kedung Wulan hamlet, village Bejijong, Trowulan, Mojokerto district and was inaugurated on April 11, 1988 by the Governors Java East of Provinces, Mr. H. Soelarso.
Sleeping Buddha statue painted in shiny gold describing the death of Siddhartha Gautama and built on a pool water to symbolize his ashes are floated in the sea. The statue is facing south, which is considered Buddhists qiblah. Around the base of the statue there are reliefs that tell about Buddhism itself.
