The U.S.S. Icarus (test registry 'X-1') was used to test hyperwarp propulsion in the 2260s. The prototype vessel consisted of a saucer-shaped primary hull three to five decks high and two cylindrical, tapered warp engines attached at either side of the saucer. On it's maiden test flight, it disappeared in the Gamma Canaris region when it accelerated to 2,200 times light speed, which at that time was warp factor 13. It was rediscovered almost 200 years later, crashed on the surface of a planet on the other side of the galaxy.
