Galt #8 Mine Head Frame, Lethbridge, Alberta

Rhys S.
Coal mining was the leading economic driver behind the establishment of Lethbridge, Alberta which was known as Coalbanks in its early days. The last coal mine to close in the area was the Galt # 8 Mine which closed in 1957. Its remains are still prominent on the horizon of West Lethbridge. The headframe of the shaft mine is the last remaining structure of this type in Canada.
