St. James' Church, Dursley

John
Grade 1 Listed Building. 'St. James the Great's Church, Dursley, was started in the 13th C and mainly consists of 14th and 15th C work. The tower - with its oriiginal spire - collapsed in 1699 during a bell-ringing session. The tower was rebuilt in 'Gothic Revival' style in 1708-09 by Thomas Sumsion of Colerne. The church was again rebuilt (with the exception of the tower, west and south walls, and south porch) in 1856 when the chancel was extended by about 8 metres, and the nave walls raised so as to form the clerestory. #church #Dursley #parish
