DVS Grandstand

DVS Grandstand

Tomdubbs
Formerly located at The Don Valley Stadium in Attercliffe, Sheffield. Built into the topography, this 10,000 seat grandstand accommodated the stadiums internal facilities and the lower tier of seating contributed to the perimeter of the stadium bowl. The modular design presented a dynamic rhythm along its High-tech façade and the structures iconic roof line was a significant landmark. It was one of the first structures in the UK to feature a large span stressed fabric skin - using a (PTFE) Teflon-coated glass fibre membrane to span between a series of cantilevered trusses, all supported by the bold yellow Vierendeel ladder masts. The character of the building was unique and it embodied over two decades of sporting legacy and community pride. The stadium complex was designed by the Department of Design & Building Services at Sheffield City Council, led by Tom Wood and the grandstand was engineered by the acclaimed Anthony Hunt Associates. The stadium closed in September 2013 and has since been demolished for redevelopment. This model was produced as part of an Urban Study project by students at the University of Huddersfield. #Athletics #Attercliffe #concert #Demolished #Don_Valley #DVS #England #fabric #glassfibre #Grandstand #Hightech #International #ladder #masts #membrane #Sheffield #skin #South_Yorkshire #Stadium #stressed #UK #University_of_Huddersfield #Urban_Study #venue #Vierendeel #World_Student_Games
