This is a model of the old Knights of the Maccabees Lodge, also known as the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, located at 1725 Carll Street in the North Fairmount neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. Constructed in 1896, the asymmetrical Queen Anne-style building with Colonial Revival details was originally home to a fraternal organization that apparently had several members in the area. Over time, the neighborhood's demographics shifted, and eventually the organization sold the building to the congregation of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, though I am unsure when this happened. Sometime either before or around the time the building was sold, there was a massive alteration to the exterior, which simplified the building's appearance. This was likely done to reduce maintenance costs. Today, the original windows remain intact on the front facade, but the building is abandoned and considered a "nuisance" by the city, who will sadly probably push for its demolition, leaving yet another overgrown vacant lot where an historic and character-defining structure once existed. Feel free to use this model as you see fit, on the condition that you contact me first so I know where it is being used (I'd love to see it wherever it ends up), and give me a mention or credit wherever it is used or published. #Cincinnati #QueenAnne #Church #HistoricArchitecture
