Azuma Tower House 1966

Azuma Tower House 1966

John Luttropp
Japanese architect Takamitsu Azuma designed this home for himself, his wife and young daughter after moving from Osaka to Tokyo in 1966. The house is a six-story cast concrete structure, with each floor having its own function and a spiral staircase connecting the levels. When the house was built, it was the tallest structure in the neighborhood, but as the area developed over its five decades, the house is now dwarfed by taller buildings built around it. As of 2016, the house was still occupied by Azuma's daughter Rei. For my model, I worked from the original floor plans found online, as well as elevations and plans by others. The interior details of the house changed over time, and I used what I found from various photos to put it together as close as I could to the original design. I had to guess at a few details when I couldn't find photos of certain spaces. Thanks to those whose models I've included or adapted for use in the interior. I had to make changes to most of the models I used for the Warehouse to better fit them to the small space. #1960s_architecture #brutalism #brutalist #Japan #Small_House #Takemitsu_Azuma #Tiny_House #Tokyo
