Rudolph Schindler Chair (Unit Furniture) 1934

Jason B.
In 1934 the Shep family commissioned architect Rudolph Schindler to design a residence in Silverlake (Los Angeles). Although the house was never built, Shindler produced furniture for several rooms. Callig These pieces "unit furniture," he inteded them to be assembled in various combinations for maximum flexibility. This chair was part of the dining room set; the chairs were intended to be placed, alternating with stools, around an expandable table. The unit furniture, the modular forms, and the stripped down aesthetic of rectangular planes all reflect Schindler's commitment to versatility and economy of space in a modern home. #mid_century_modern #Modern_furniture #plywood_furniture #Rudolph_Schindler #simple_wood_chair #unit_furniture
