The GP40 is a 4-axle diesel electric locomotive that was built by the General Motors Electro-Motive Division from 1965 to 1971. In 1972, the GP40 was replaced in the catalog with the GP40-2.
The locomotive was originally a B&O GP40 numbered 4012, which ultimately found itself onto CSX's roster as 6587 before being sold to LLPX and was numbered GMTX 3105. This locomotive was eventually purchased by the St. Lawrence & Atlantic railway, and then made it into the hands of Pan Am. MEC 383 wears faded GATX colors, with its number and reporting mark pasted over the old paint job.
