Such kind of housing is prevalent across India. They are found in most railway, government housing, mining, coal and other industrial townships in central and eastern parts of India. For example - Tata Steel Plant staff quarters in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
They are located in well planned townships and usually have most basic amenities available to lead a comfortable if not lavish lifestyle.
This style was mainly adapted in the mid 1980s to the late 1990s.
The particular model has 1,000 sq.ft 2 bedroom accommodation. Each block has 4 such units.
Dwelling Description - The design is often stark and utilitarian something similar to Soviet era block housing. However, they are very well planned and functional.
Both bedrooms and the living room have balconies. As is the norm, the cupboards are carved out in the walls like a niche. The kitchen also has a smaller store room. There is ample cross ventilation. The ground level accommodations also have a small lawn and backyard.
Due to excessive summer temperatures, windows are often opaque.
Cars are parked adjacent to the plot in temporary sheds which I have depicted.
These dwellings are often made of precast components for quicker and economical construction.
