This is the standard sidearm used by Imperial Stormtroopers in Star Wars Episode IV-VI. The model more specifically represents a version of the blaster used in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. It was built from a British-made Sterling Mk. 4 L2A3 submachine gun by adding a gun scope and an industrial counter along with various other parts. Many of these blasters used in the film were actually fully functional machine guns firing blank cartridges to aid in post production. I initially started working on this model for the Google SketchUp 3D Challenge #89. It turned out to be way to ambitious to finish in time for the one week challenge and it ended up staying incomplete for quite some time. After finally returning to finish the model and pretty much starting over, it is now done and in much greater detail than originally anticipated. See link below for blog entry and image gallery.
**Update 9/22/2015: New grip geometry: the grip has been completely redone for more accuracy and the textured surface is now implimented with actual geometry instead of a material. Additional detail has been added to the scope to bring it in line with my ESB Bespin DL-44 model. The scope mount is now riveted to the gun body instead of the rear sight. The style has been changed. A new stage has been and a rendering has been added.
