This is a cat tree that my roomate and I decided to build after we found out how much the large ones would cost to order. It goes from floor to ceiling in our apartment and is 84" x 24" x 48". The reason one side is open is because that side is against a wall and a very large window that our cats love to watch the birds and squirrels from. The two tallest posts are secured into the ceiling. Materials for building this are 4x4" posts for the supports, and 3/4" thick plywood. First we painted everthing with Kilz to protect all our hard work just in case things got wet or someone had an accident. We covered the bottom of one of the posts with Sisal rope for the kitties to scratch on and the tops of each shelf and house (and the ladder) was covered in carpet samples that we were able to get for free. The rest that wasn't covered we painted with a satin finish paint to make it easier to wipe down when things get hairy. :) Under the first level, we hung a hammock made from fleece, canvas, and some really strong polyester rope. (Our kitties are pretty heavy and they like to jump in and out of the hammock.) Then we hung a few of their favorite toys to play with from the overhanging ledges. I have pictures of the actual cat tree posted on myspace. If you would like more information on how to build this or one like it yourself you can contact me there. #cat #cat_condo #cat_tree #condo #kitty #kitty_condo #tree #tree_house
