Kawasaki CTC-4 (Alstom Overhaul) - MBTA

TRG
The CTC-4 is a variant of double deck passenger coach built by Kawasaki originally from 1990 to 1991. These coaches were overhauled by Alstom from 2014 to 2019. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) rosters a number of these coaches for their commuter lines. The trains on the routes out of Boston's North Station usually contain one of these double deck coaches toward the locomotive end of the train, followed by a variety of single deck coaches. Sometimes CTC-4 cab cars are used. The trains on routes originating at South Station are fitted with full six-car sets of double deck coaches. Almost all of these coaches were rebuilt in 2019, and MBTA is receiving new double deck coaches of a similar design from Hyundai-Rotem. The MBTA is systematically phasing out its fleet of single deck coaches built by Pullman, Bombardier, and MBB, some of which are 40 years old.
