This model depicts the Meijer supercenter/hypermarket in Lincoln Park, MI, at Dix Highway and Emmons Boulevard. This is one of only a handful of Meijer stores that opened in buildings that originally housed other retailers. This store originally opened as a Kmart Supercenter in 1994 and closed on March 21, 2003, during a massive round of store closures caused by that chain's bankruptcy (which also closed the Flat Rock Shopping Center store, which I modeled last December) and sat vacant for over a year until reopening as a Meijer on November 9, 2004 as one of two new stores that were the first to receive a new interior design, the other store is in Rolling Meadows, IL.
