In Paris on 21 November 1783, the Montgolfier brothers, Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Etienne, launched the first free human flight in their hot air balloon. The passengers were Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier and Francois Laurent, Marquis d’Arlandes. The flight reached an altitude of about 900 meters and 9 kilometers distance and lasted for 25 minutes.
