Budd Metroliner Cab Car Conversion - Amtrak

TRG
The Budd Metroliner was a self-propelled railcar, or electric multiple unit, built for service on the Northeast Corridor for the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1967 to 1970, and were soon absorbed into Penn Central. These cars were slated to reach speeds of 150 mph, but only reached 120 mph in revenue service. Amtrak inherited the Metroliners when it took over passenger operations from Conrail in 1971. Due to their age and problematic propulsion systems, the cars were converted into cab car trailers starting in 1980. These cars are still used in revenue service today, on trains like the Northeast Regional, or the Valley Flyer.
