In 1998 it was decided that on the Antwerp Hanzastedenplaats a new museum of city, harbor and shipping would be built. It will contain the collections of the Folklore Museum, and the National Maritime Museum. The name MAS stands for 'Museum Aan de Stroom', or 'Museum by the Stream'. The design from Neutelings-Riedijk Architecten was the winning concept. The surface area of the museum building is 1.350 m2, at a total area of 14,500 m2. The total height of the building is 62 meter. On May 14, 2010, the museum square designed by Luc Tuymans opened #antwerp #antwerpen #belgie #belgien #belgium #flanders #hanzehuis #MAS #musea #museum #oosterhuis #river #schelde #sitting_duck #vlaanderen
