The Enterprise was severely damaged above Earth during the Khan incident in 2259. The Enterprise was almost completely refited for its five year mission. 3 years into its mission, the Enterprise investigated the apparent disapearence of an alien ship in Necro cloud, just beyond the Yorktown Station. The Enterprise was torn apart by Kralls's swarm in 2263 above Altamid. It was replaced by the under construction USS Ti-Ho, which had its registry changed to NCC-1701-A . The Enterprise-A returned to Altamid later that year to salvage as much as they could from the ruined ship. The remains that could not be salvaged, including most of the primary hull and the main engineering section were rigged to detonate, so the technology could not be examined by enemies of the Federation.
The USS Enterprise was an Essex type constitution class starship.
