Anne Hvides farm is Svendborg's oldest secular building. It was built ca. 1560 of noble lady Anne White married to Jesper Friis of Rødkilde. She died in 1577 and the house was then until 1769 in many nobles ownership. Then it was bought by a captain named Christen Børgesen. It was turned into a guest house for the city's major men. After Chris's death led widow and son enterprise on. Later it was his son and and his wife, Dorothea, who brought it forward with even greater success. Dorthea was very well known in town as the "madam Børgesen and she kept the inn for many years until her death in 1867. Than 30 years, it was for. House remained in the family Børgesen but ceased as an inn. Brother, who was the owner , settled in the United States and rented out the house such as school premises.
