A pail is a small cylindrical container used for shipping bulk cargo. Pails can be made of steel or plastics, and are generally used for the transportation and storage of liquids and solids. Available in 5 gallon capacities, pails can be divided into two common sub-types: the open head pail with removal cover (sealed with either a crimp type lid, lid with a bolt type locking ring or a lid with a lever lock quick close ring) and the closed head pail.
