Starting in May of 2023, CSX Transportation began a program of painting General Electric ES44AH locomotives in heritage paint schemes commemorating its predecessor railroads.
Following the Penn Central Bankruptcy, the Penn Central, along with the Central Railroad of New Jersey, Erie Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, Reading, and others, became the Consolidated Rail Corporation in 1976. At the end of its life, Conrail was split in 1999 to CSX and Norfolk Southern, and some of what became Conrail's network is now a part of CSX's system. This heritage unit has been touring the system on CSX's revenue freight trains.
