This aircraft was delivered in 1958 to the U.S. Air Force as VC-137A Stratoliner 58-6970 (or SAM 970)and quickly became the official Air Force One for President Dwight D. Eisenhower, replacing the Lockheed VC-121E Constellation "Columbine III". In 1961, it became Air Force One for John F. Kennedy, who's wife, Jaqueline, had the aircraft painted into its modern colors. Kennedy later switched to VC-137C 62-6000 (SAM 26000) and left SAM 970 to his Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1963, Johnson took SAM 970 to Dallas as Air Force Two where Kennedy was murdered shortly afterward. Johnson was sworn in as president onboard one of the two VC-137 aircraft. After Johnson finished his term, President Richard M. Nixon used it, along with Henry Kissinger, who used it to visit China. Bill Clinton was the last to use SAM 970, and it is now on display at the Museum of Flight in Tukwila, Washington. #586970 #707 #707100 #707100B #707120 #707120B #707153 #707153B #86970 #Air #Boeing #Force #One #US #United_States
