IBM 2314 DIRECT ACCESS STORAGE FACILITY (DASF) – A SERIES (1969)

In January 1969, IBM announced two new versions of its’ 2314 Direct Access Storage Facility-- the Model 1 A1 and Model 1 A2 -- using the same removable eleven disk 29.17 MB 2316 Disk Packs but with updated disk drives giving access times of 60 milliseconds, 20 percent faster than the previously available Model 1. These new versions differed from the original Model 1 by separating the disk / drive units into multiple independent modules which could be mixed and matched as required, all with the ability to connect to a 2314 Storage Control Unit. This model represents one of the A-series modular systems with one 2313 single drive module, one 2314 four drive module, and two 2318 dual drive modules for a total of nine drives, along with the standard 2314 Storage Control Unit.
