The rainbow emoji in a clear sky, appearing when there is a light rain or mist in the air, at the same time as sunshine. A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicolored circular arc. This emoji is used in the context of weather. Rainbow was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun. An arc of spectral colors, usually identified as red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, that appears in the sky opposite the sun as a result of the refractive dispersion of sunlight in drops of rain or mist.
