NEW PLANE:
Pan Am was the first airline to use the Boeing 707; the first flight occurred on October 26, 1958 from NY to Paris. It quickly became the most popular airliner.
NEW LIVERY:
The new jet-fleet of Boeing 707s, known as Clippers, spurred Pan Am into thinking of a new livery and the result was hardly radical. The cheatline was simplified into a thin blue line and the titles were PAN AMERICAN in black. The biggest change was the creation of the classic globe, designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes and Charles Forberg.
NEW AIR TERMINAL:
JFK Worldport was the PAN AM Air Terminal in NY, operated from 1960 to 2013. It was designed by Ives, Turano & Gardner Associated Architects and Walther Prokosch of Tippets, Abbet, McCarthy, Stratton, as a showcase for international jet travel and was famous for its roof, called the flying saucer. It was designed to allow for aircraft to be parked under the overhanging roof that sheltered passengers as they boarded the aircraft by uncovered bridges.
