Backsteinskulptur from Per Kirkeby. Located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in front of the Deutschen Nationalbibliothek. The Danish sculptor Per Kirkeby created the "brick sculpture" in 1996. The work is located on Adickesallee in front of the new German National Library building in Frankfurt's Nordend district. It is 37.5 metres long and 17.5 metres wide. Its height is 5.0 metres. It is a walk-in monumental sculpture made of red bricks consisting of cubes measuring 2.50 x 2.50 x 2.50 metres. Kirkeby created three of his brick sculptures in Hessen alone. He thus enriched the region with works which, through the monumentality and size of the sculptures, remind one of sacred rooms and churches, which in turn is reminiscent of the brick Gothic style more typical of Nordic countries and Hanseatic cities.
