The IBM 1623 Core Storage Unit was an external peripheral connected to the IBM 1620 Computer Data Processing System, a low-cost second generation (transistor based) scientific / technology based computer in service between 1959 and 1970. Designed to work with the IBM 1620 Model 1 (1959), the 1623 was an external cabinet unit designed to provide up to 40,000 additional core storage computer memory digits needed for applications that required more than the standard 20,000 digits of core storage included within the base 1620 Model 1 Control Console. This mode represents the IBM 1623 Core Storage Unit.
