The GKN Simba UP is an upgraded variant of the GKN Simba armored personnel carrier currently fielded by the Philippine Armed Forces as one if its primary armored vehicles in combat.
The upgraded variant includes front tire guards, and a main turret armed with one 12.7mm machine gun and 40mm automatic grenade launcher - the gunner's periscope enables the gunner to use thermal and infrared imaging to track and see targets from long distances and to spot hidden enemy vehicles in the area. A Boomerang gunfire locator is also fitted in the aft part of the turret to quickly pinpoint enemy gunfire which enables the crew to return fire immediately.
The rear door is converted to a drop down ramp for rapid deployment and more room for the passengers to get in and out. A hatch atop the passenger compartment can be opened, these hatches will also automatically open in case of an emergency within 7 seconds. The V-shaped hull increases crew survivability against IED and mine blasts, the seats are also bolted to the vehicle wall - preventing the passenger's feet to touch the vehicle floor which also increases crew survivability in case of a penetrating hit from the vehicle floor.
